Erika Nelson, MA, LPCCMs. Erika Nelson earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Wartburg College located in Iowa. After moving back to Minnesota, she worked for five years with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in various settings, including in-home, center-based, and a specialty school. While completing a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, she gained experience in a partial hospitalization level of care, specific to kids and families struggling with anxiety and OCD. Ms. Nelson soon uncovered a passion for teaching clients and parents about anxiety-based disorders and providing them with the awareness and skills to return to the life they want to be living.
Ms. Nelson strives to create a calm and welcoming environment, giving her clients the space to feel heard and understood. She values getting to know each individual and building a connection so she can meet clients where they are. Ms. Nelson uses evidence-based therapeutic approaches in her therapy practice to include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP). Ms. Nelson has a passion for improving communication in families and educating parents on ways to adjust interaction styles to help their children build confidence and self-efficacy. Ms. Nelson grew up in Iowa and currently resides in Minneapolis with her wife and three rescue pit bulls. She makes it a priority to spend time with her family, usually out on the lake or playing in the snow, as well as supporting local/lesser known musicians, drinking quality coffee, and attending local sporting events. |
