Erika Nelson, MA, LPCCErika Nelson (they/them) earned their undergraduate degree in psychology from Wartburg College located in Iowa. After moving back to Minnesota, Erika worked for five years with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in various settings, including in-home, center-based, and a specialty school. While completing a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, they gained experience in a partial hospitalization level of care, specific to kids and families struggling with anxiety and OCD. More recently, Erika has enjoyed learning about and working with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community.
Erika strives to create a calm and welcoming environment, giving clients the space to feel heard and understood. They value getting to know each individual and building a connection so they can meet clients where they are. Erika uses evidence-based therapeutic approaches in their therapy practice to include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP). Erika has a passion for teaching clients and parents about mental health, including building awareness and skills and educating parents on ways to adjust interaction styles to help their children build confidence and independence. Erika grew up in Iowa and currently resides in Minneapolis with their wife and three rescue pit bulls. Erika makes it a priority to spend time with family, usually out on the lake or playing in the snow, as well as supporting local/lesser-known musicians, drinking quality coffee, and attending local events. |
